  1. Anybody that’s been in Parker County for 10 years or so should remember how sorry Commissioners Court was back when Mack Dobbs, Gary Pluggy and Charley Horton was on the court. It was King Dobbs and his court. When the Republicans got elected we thought all that would change. It got better for a little while but now it is right back like it was before. Seems like after these guys have been there for a while, they start thinking they can do a better job of running our lives than we can. They have even started messing around with our 2nd amendment rights. Who do they think they are telling us where we can use our guns and where we can’t? They don’t tell me I can’t use my pickup because I might run into somebody with it if my farm is only 10 acres. So why do they think they should make it against the law for me to use my gun to kill a snake or for whatever I want to use it for? Don’t we already have laws in case I shoot somebody? Come to think of it, one thing has not changed since the messed up Dobbs court days, and that is the County Judge. Maybe that has been the problem all along.

    1. I agree with the part about what happens when Commissioners stay on the court too long. They seem to develop “little dictator” attitudes. The last thing we need is another unenforceable gun law! That whole episode was a farce. We have a Sheriff who is more than capable of handling disturbances with or without firearms. One more law only restricts the rights of the innocent! I must however, disagree with your perception of the County Judge. He only has one vote, and generally uses it wisely.

      1. Cary McKay for Parker County Judge

Judge Riley tells the others what to do and they follow him like drones. Please pay attention to the campaign his actions do not back up your belief, I will prove it this fall. John Roth is the only commissioner that votes as a conservative. Thanks

      2. Cary McKay, You have consistently done whatever you can to undermine the county commissioner court with your talk and print. The fact that you are unable to pull together a credible threat from these guys is proof enough for me. It is really difficult to lambast the individual members because they were elected by the people they represent in their precints. So the Judge is the logical choice since he is at large and each precinct is represented. Not all of the people are happy all the time, and never will be happy all the time. As stated above the Judge has one vote and is usually used well and with the overall interest of the county

      3. Jon Moffitt is a Conservative at heart and is running for Precinct 1. He is a good man, a good father and a good friend. there is no doubt in my heart that he will serve Parker County in a Constitutional Conservative manner start to finish.

  2. oh! We are not remembering the same facts. I’ve lived here 23 years and have a good memory. The county judge has changed several times. Give us specifics please. Or is this a personal beef with Riley?
Wait! Sounds like you are a candidate for county judge yourself. ?

    1. No I’m not going to run for County Judge but I hope somebody does. We need somebody that will steer the Commissioners down a more conservative trail and stand guard over our tax dollars. We just need to get these politicians out of office and start all over. I don’t think Riley is a bad guy. I just think he goes along with the herd too much.

  3. ok. But I know the judge has butted heads many times with the commissioners over the last few years. I know John Roth and Jim Webster are always pulling stunts. So let’s replace Webster next year and I think the court will greatly improve.

  4. I think the real problem here is a lack of strong conservative values in the court as well as the public. I having lived here most of my life (51 years) with family who have been here over 70 years have seen this county change drastically. Most of the new folks came here to live in a smaller community and then immediately began to try to change this community to become more like the big community they were trying to get away from. Now these folks who are probably a majority now have begun to voice their opinion to our local government. Since our elected officials know to get reelected they will have to please the majority they bend to the new folks demands. What needs to happen is we need to vote in term limits. Then our elected officials will more than likely vote on items with less concern about relection since they would only be able to run one or two more times.

    1. We have term limits every four years. I do not believe that the voters voting to disenfranchise the voters is anything but a crutch for pure laziness.

I want to know why all around the pre. #3 all the roads are over the years has been massive road work but all the south areas around Horseshoe Bend has not been touched fix a pot hole and just keep covering pot holes on top of old pot holes but all our roads are in bad shape and nothing has been paved even on high traffic areas…WHEN IS HORESHOE BEND EVER GOING TO GET NEWLY PAVED ROADS? THEY ARE ALL BAD SHAPE

    1. John Roth is not running for re-election. Let’s vote in a Precinct #1 Commissioner from Horseshoe Bend.

    2. The roads inside Horsehoe bend are private roads. Repairs are a responsibility of the subdivision owners. They are not repaired by the county. The road going up to the gate belongs to the county if it is truly a county road. If the roads were owned by the county they would be subject to repair by the county.

  6. On both the national and local level, citizens are looking for honesty, integrity and common sense from their elected representatives.
Voters are looking for men and women who serve the interests of the people. In Parker County, as Precinct 4 commissioner, I will serve my constituents with honesty, integrity and common sense.

Residents of Parker County Precinct 4 have one commissioner on the court. As your county commissioner, I will always vote for your best interests.

Mason Wallis for county commissioner precinct 4

  7. If you want to experience what Christmas is really about I recommend you visit Capernaum 1st Century Village located at 10700 FM 920, Weatherford.

I went out there with a group from my church this past Wednesday and had a very enjoyable time. This is something that is great fun for all ages. For more information you can visit their website at http://www.capernaumvillage.com.

The Capernaum Village is open from 5:30pm – 10:00 pm, Dec 18, 19, and 20.

  8. I do not understand all of this gun ordinance debate. It is not a 2nd amendment issue. It is a discharge issue. There is a major difference. Also, ten acres is small. It is only for platted subdivisions. If you really live out in the “country” you have nothing to worry about. People do not move out to Parker County to smaller lots in subdivisions and expect it to sound like a war zone. Not to mention for the safety of the community.

    1. If you moved out here trying to get away from the big city and have guns then on a plotted subdivision; you should be able to shoot your guns as long as you do it in a responsible manner. There have been no claims before hand stating that people were abusing their right to shoot their firearms and become more proficient with them. No one has been harmed. This came about randomly and without a public hearing to hear the opinions of the community. I think this is a seriously backstabbing and deceitful move to all of those who elected these officials.
Apparently, all gun owners in the county are people who who discharge their weapons in a responsible manner, in a safe direction, observing all firearm safety rules. Again, there have been no events or even “here-say” about irresponsible gun usage then this is a pointless law which just irritates people, such as myself, and forces us to go to far away or expensive gun ranges.

  9. I am looking at buying 5 acres in parker county, out of city limits. It is not in a community or subdivision will I be able to shoot firearms. I will not buy it if I can’t. Thanks!!!

  10. Chad, you may have heard about an Order (OR09-08) that was approved by Parker County Commissioners Court March 6, 2009.

That order reads “The discharge of firearms on lots that are 10 acres or smaller and are located in the unincorporated area of the county in a platted subdivision is prohibited except for the protection of all personal property, self defense, livestock, and varmint extermination.

Additionally, a person commits a criminal offense if the person intentionally or knowingly engages in conduct that violates this order”.

    Welcome to Parker County!

    1. I am wanting to start a repeal of this ordinance and need support and advise from anyone interested in the same. This ordinance was passed by six people on a kangaroo court convened on a Friday evening outside normal order.

  11. How hard would it be to have a question and answer for your commissioner posted in video format each quarter,
This would give us a better view of ‘What were they Thinking. If they don’t want this vote them out. And get someone who really believes in tranparency.

  12. A big thank you to the conservative voters of The City of Weatherford on electing Eric Matthews. Eric and Jerry Clinton are our voice on the Council.
We do not have the time to relax as both Eric and Jerry need to be re-elected this coming May. Please understand electing Eric has upset Mrs. Prince’s, Parker County Republican Chairperson, plan to control the Weatherford City Council with her hand- picked candidate Mitch Bedinger.
The Weatherford City Charter declares the City Council to be non-partisan. Mrs. Prince will use her position and, seemingly, unlimited funds to gain her elitist, arrogant control over our lives and property.
Please tell Eric and Jerry when you are happy or unhappy with them. Talk them up to your friends and support them.

  13. Does anyone know where Weatherford’s Frist Monday Trade Day was held before1955?
Does anyone remember it being call “Stray Day Sale” where citizens rounded up stray cattle, horses, other farm livestock to sale without the benefit of the Sheriff Stray Sale. Did they sale dogs and cats at thses sales?
Any information you could provide about the orgins of the Weatherford First Monday Flea Market/Farmer’s Market/Trade Days would be appreciated.

  14. At Tuesday’s, Nov 9, Weatherford City Council meeting, I attempted to bring attention to some First Monday Trade Days supporters/vendors they needed to become knowledgeable about the “politics” of the issues of Frist Monday Trade Days and the return of animal sale there.
In thier myopic view of how they want these issues to be the way they want, they were looking for a scapegoat, which they found in me.
Yes I have problems with First Monday Trade Days and because of the recent history of how the animals were preparaed for sale and treated, I would only support there return only with a good, clean shelter. That the animal have all required federal, state and local test and shots. That a properly trained person from the Weatherford/Parker County Animal Shelter be at the sale area 24 hours a day from the time the animal arrive until they leave. The animal venders must be required to pay for these items in thier fee to the First MondayTrade Days/City of Weatherford.

  15. At the Weatherford Municipal Utility Board Work Session Tuesday afternoon (11/16) following the Board”s regular meeting at Noon, the board will receive a “staff” report on the “Strategic Plan Update for Water”.
A work session is a meeting where the public may attend.
The board receives information from staff, a paid consultant or other invited persons but does NOT need to allow the public to have any imput.
Strategic planning involves “someone or group” trying to guess what will happen in the future and an appropriate response.
The strategic plan response to the “congestion charges” under the AEP contract to supply power for our electric system was to increase the electric rates to have excess funds in case something happens that will require $$$$$. The board rasied rates with that money going into the general electric fund. NO cap was put on the amount for emergencies and the monies are NOT in a ‘lock box, set aside account”. This rate increase gives the Board monies they can use anyway they want to without public/ratepayers’ knowledge.
“Strategic Plan Update for Water” is nothing more than increasing your water rate to have monies in the water department fund for unforseen problems within the water system. Again, the amount of these monies will NOT be capped or put into a separate account. Again, our monies will be there for the Board to use as they want without the public’s knowledge.
A municipal utility rate should be the “real” cost to provide the utility to the ratepayer.
Weren’t the water rates just raised so the water utility would collect enough monies to pay the “real” cost to provide water rather than, say, the electric department subsdizing their shortage in the water department so it is able to break even.
Has there been a decrease in the electric rates because of the above?

  16. In a conversation with Terry Hughes, Transportation and Public Works Director for the City of Weatherford, I became aware there have not been any traffic studies since Jack Borden Way opened. None are currently planned to address the traffic congestion at the intersections of College Park , Foster and East Park or College Park, Martin and the college entrance. With the increasing congestion at these two intersections, I would think that someone in the city, elected or management, would have heard complaints about these by now.
OH! That’s right, First Monday Trade and “Stray Sale” Days is much more important than the movement of traffic easily and safely through the city.

  17. The Weatherford Municipal Utility Board considered and passed an item concerning a water utility customer that had a bill much higher than expected. The meter was tested and found to be working properly. The leak was on “his” side.
The board decided to average the usage of the three (3) months before the large bill and substract that amount from the large usage. The ratepayer would pay the regular amount for the average usage and pay the difference billed at the “real” cost of providing the water.
Question: Shouldn’t the rate paid by any rate payer be the “real” cost of providing the utility?

  18. The Weatherford Municipal Utility Board is working out of sight of the public’s knowledge. Recently, the water rates have been raised to have the water utility pay for itself. Then, they have been looking at a “strategic plan” for water rates, by increasing the water rate to have money in the water utility in case an emergency repair is needed like our August fiasco. There is no cap on how much can be collected and left in the water utility fund with no “special” accounting and none set aside in an interest-bearing account.
Guess what? The Weatherford Municipal Utility Board wants to install NEW, more accurate water meters at the utility users’/ ratepayers’ addresses for the purpose of making sure narry a drop of water is not metered. Not only is this to make sure not a drop of water is missed and is billed, BUT you get to pay for these NEW meters and the interest for paying for them over time.

  19. Is Parker County a sanctuary for people who break our laws? Look at the uncompensated cost associated with illegal aliens in parker county.we spend several million dollars a year in services for the folks who have scoffed at our laws, and truly feel they deserve to be taken care of in our hospitals, schools, and community and county services. The fed has made it more difficult to address with the anti profiling laws and statutes, and their lack of stemming the flow of illegals into Texas. Our border is wide open. What can we do to help reduce this cost or do we just reward every law breaker in the county?

  20. The Weatherford City Council is considering the establishing of Rosenberg’s Rules of Order as the procedure by which council meetings will be conducted.
    1) Who has ever heard of Rosenberg’s Rules of Order and what groups are currently using them?
    2) Does anyone on the Council know/ understand Robert’s Rules of Order?
Why does the Weatherford City Council need to establish a “rules of order” when common sense has been used until now.
Robert’s Rules was established in the 1700’s as the procedural manual by, and for, the British Parliament.
Robert’s Rules was used by Stalin to gain control of the Russian Revolution in 1918.
Robert’s Rules is good for large groups, but entirely too cumbersome for small groups such as our city council. It is too intimidating for most.
Two council members, duly elected by the public, are questioning decisions by the mayor and the other two – longer sitting – members. The assistant city manager has tried to intercede by telling them they cannot request any information from the city staff without the mayor’s previous approval.
I’d like to remind the assistant city manager that City Hall belongs to the public as does any public record or information as defined by law. This is the same mind set that sees our Council go into far too many “Executive Sessions” – some that violate the Open Meetings Act.
Stalin used Robert’s Rules to build his anarchy. Is it possible there are a couple of council members and the city staff that want to silence the public and the other council members that are truly interested in the city’s well-being?
I think I’ll go hoist my “Don’t Tread on Me” flag!

    1. Roberts Rules were originally extablished to create an order, and control for the sake of being able to move a meeting forward without all the confusion associated with a heated debate. The problems arose when the rules were used to limit dissenting arguments by not recognizing the rights of participants to have their say.The rules can be applied to not allow time, opportunity, or rebuttal at the whim of the Officiating officer in charge. with a select agenda and calls for vote called from the floor the officer in charge can and most often does only recognize those members of like agenda.

  21. Look on ask Phil, and see the current cost of illegals in Parker county. It could be the money we need to cut our deficit for this coming year substantially. Take a look. This does not mean you are racist, this is just being a law abiding citizen that expects others to also respect our laws. remember the money we spend in the state and county is your money. Government does not create they only take, and in some cases inhibit.

  22. Who will do the work? The only response that I received was a personal ‘one on one’ about my Illegal cost post. And I felt that this contractor was looking out for himself at the general publics expense. Yes, there are many jobs that our friends from south of the border perform in our country ,all I ask they do ,is participate in the other half of that equation pay their own way. Subsidizing low cost workers is not the answer.

  23. G.W spoke at the site of his new Presidential library and stated that he was concerned that the public could possibly be returning to ‘nativism’ with the current uproar about illegal immigration going on. A short synopsis of what this means follows,
Natrivism “After the Great War in Europe ended in 1918 millions of devastated Europeans were seeking refuge in other parts of the world. Many of them tried to come to the United States. As with all other major waves of new immigrants came the resurgence of nativism. Americans were disillusioned by the war and had returned back to a doctrine of isolationism. They shunned diplomatic commitments to foreign countries, denouced foreign “radical” ideas, condemned “un-american” lifestyles, and shut the gates to immigration. This spirit furnaced great prosperity economically, but it spelled doom for Blacks, Catholics, Jews, and other foreigners. The formations of hate groups, legal action, and court decisions helped promote these new feelings”

From my perspective the gates to immigration are not closed. I also know to preserve our way of life and the freedoms that our young men and women have fought for all over the world we must insure that the laws on immigration be followed. The laws were put in place for a purpose, when that purpose changes, change the laws! As our country expands in population so does our understanding of the need for freedom.

In a land long ago and far away, called Common Sense, moisture, in abundance, on the ground in Parker County for nearly 2 full weeks – ice and snow, would have said ” lets lift the Burn ban for a day or 2 or 3 “………..but, no

Common Sense is pretty much dead in the County Judges office………….but the $84000 salary and car and liberal expense account rolls right on.

Do we EVER need term limits !

  25. We received a visit from the Parker County Sheriff’s dept last week with regards to violation of OR09-08 as my son had been target shooting in our back yard with his .22 cal rimfire.

The Deputy, very professional and well conducted, informed us the existence of this ordinance and our violation of it.
He let us off with a warning, but indicated my son could be charged with a felony level firearms offense. I read no where in this Order what the penalty was for violation.

How is this determined and where can I find this information?
What is required to get this intrusive Order rescinded?

    Thanks for any constructive replies.

    1. Why on earth would violating a county ordinance be punishable as a felony level firearms offense? This makes no sense. Do we really have no more rights than that?

  26. Senator Blutarsky | Reply

The Commissioners Court passed a restriction on firing weapons on prpoerty less than 10 acres, and signed by soon-to-be-unemployed Judge Riley.

It was a poor “ordinance” and an abuse of power . Rather than deal with any reckless display of weapons with MORE THAN SUFFICIENT existing laws, the goody-2-shoes comissioners passed the ordinance.

Pct 3 Comm. Roth is the only dissenting vote, if I recall correctly, and hats off to him.

    This needs to be repealed

    1. “…soon-to-be-unemployed Judge Riley.” My, goodness I like the sound of that.

  27. Is it just me or do the politicians refuse to commit on topics that are uncomfortable, so they do not alienate or possibly jeopardize their votes they can get on name recognition rather than policies and standing for our rights and laws. A fence straddler (no commitment) can lean from side to side and never stand for anything. What kind of public servant is that?
When will the public start to demand the commitment before voting for the rascals?

  28. Senator Blutarsky | Reply

It is not just you, Stan………..various elected “royalty” are usually afraid to make much of a committment on anything, and plan on the electorate to be too dumb to remember much.

Their only committments are to various vendors, and lobbyists. They champion “privitizing” as much as possible, for the benefit of small benefactors who draw blood from the public and enrich themselves and their small circle. Thats exactly how that pathetic excuse for a “governor” rammed the Toll Road boondoggles and eminent domain abuses on landowners.

Stan, they dont like to be called “public servants”……..they are your masters and lordly rulers.

The county judge here used to be a disc jockey…………..hope he hasnt lost his touch spinning hot wax.

Our state rep does little but “posture” down in Austin, as does Estes the Senator

They go along with Perrys;’ strong arm boys and their tactics, rather than stand for liberty, despite their Tea associations. Watch what they DO and never fall for what they “say”……………Talk is always cheap

Dont be afraid to pick up the phone and take their staff people to task, for whatever good it does

    1. Well Bluto, if you didn’t hide behind what eveer skirts you have around, we might be friends in the poli-fight.

But, as it is, you are no better than the politicians that you purport to disagree. Afraid to put your face on the line and use your real name is just another form of fence straddling. So you can agree or disagree by just changing your alias and play both sides of the fence. What kind of grown person is that? Talk is cheap where is your personal commitment? Afraid? The founding fathers were willing to risk everthing.

  29. Ladies and gentlemen of the electorate arm yourselves with as much knowledge as possible. There will be a tremendous struggle to come. The race for 2012 is closer than you think, and the rhetoric has begun. Be sure to devote time to your future and become familiar with the candidates, there is no longer plenty of room for mistakes in judgement based on gut feeling or party politics. this next vote may be the most important in the life of your grandchildren. get the facts straight. vote what you know not what you wish. Be advised that there are those on both sides that would sidetrack your thoughts on the issues with trivia and cover the things that really matter with personal attacks and political correctness asaults. Be wiser than that.

  30. I am taking a poll. Here are 3 Questions: (1) How many people think this Nation was founded as a Christian Nation? (2) Is separation of church and State Constitutional or a twisted fallacy? (3) Would you like to see Christian prayer in your City Council Meetings?

    1. Eric, I don’t know how many responses you received via email, but don’t expect much here. There is very little open debate here. To put out opinions here would require a stance and commitment, in short supply, That is why you probably receive most responses anonymously, or in person. As in the movie 4th of July, “plausible deniability” Keep up your work and stand for what is right .

    2. 1. Yes we are a Christian nation.
      2. It’s a crock.
      3. Live in the county but would like to think all civil meetings start with prayer.

    3. 1. I believe we were founded as a free nation, with freedom of religion guaranteed. Is that the same thing?

      2. Separation of Church and State is constitutional, to protect us from the State forcing a religion upon us. As long as we are all Christians, nobody complains, but what if the Christians were able to be outvoted by some other religion? Say, Islam? Then all us Christians would be screaming for the protection of the Separation of Church and State. It has to be one way or the other, you can’t just pick the parts of the Constitution that you like.

      3. I think whether or not there is a prayer before any civil meetings should be the choice of the majority of the people who are there. It is none of the Federal Government’s business.

      1. We, the People, are a Nation UNDER G-D (and yes, I am Jewish). The argument that the United States of America is a Christian Nation will go on. I love Jesus and I know he would love us all. That is what I would think Christians who follow HIS teachings would agree upon? Separation of Church and State is a must, just as the Inclusiveness of G-d and State is a must. The Light of our Lord must be what we cling to as citizens and politicians….in my humble opinion.

      2. Tawni Maughan

        Oh my!

I am not the ONLY Jew in Weatherford? LOL

I hope you had a happy Pesach.

    4. Well, it seems since the Council is staying up with my Facebook, we had a “moment to ask for blessings” at the beginning of the last special session I attended. I appreciate them listening. I feel that it is important to set out intention before approaching making important decisions. I dont care how YOU pray, it makes no difference in the way that I pray. I just think it is important to ask for blessings on our decision making as Council members and for the people who will speak. I dont know about you, but I need all the help that I can get. If I can get YOU to ask for blessings for my decision making I am truly blessed. And, it just give us a moment to rest our minds away from the daily grind.

But, what I do feel we ALL should participate in is the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States of America. If we cannot pledge our allegiance to the Constitution, then we have NO Right to be in office nor in this great country. We are ONE Nation under G-d…..and however YOU get to him is your business……and I would hope that you would want me to get to him before I make a decision which effects a whole city.

My little opinion…….as a Candidate for City Council Place 3

Blessings to you all and to our great Nation!

      1. Lee Ann Adams

I sincerely have never seen God typed out as G-d, if I am assuming that is what G-d means. What is the point of this? To not offend? Call me c-nfused, but I am curious why you purposely leave the o out of God.

      2. Lee Abb Adams

Obviously your experience is limited. Have you never studied anything about other religions? If I were you, I would start with Judaism.

  31. Have you noticed a lull in the concern for individual rights. Heard a piece on ‘Stossel’ lastnight about states freedoms and was really pretty interested in the concept being inplemented in New Hampshire. Any comments? If you haven’t checked this out you might want to take a look. They sound libertarian but are sane about it.

  32. I see the fine senator gets uncomfortable when put to task also. Still no response, I believe his exact words were ‘talk is cheap’ ‘put them to task’ ‘they posture’ and. Soooo, bluto are you still there and and do you really believe in the process or are you sure you stand for something rather than nothing. Wow, blast away senator this is your chance to be a real person in this community.

  33. Fast and Furious. There are now strong evidence that our own top law enforcement officers were involved in arming cartel drug gangs in Mexico. In turn the government is pushing (carefully, I might add) to limit gun sales in border states. Where is the response to these atrocities from our state government, or have I just missed the outrage?

    1. Well lets see, in the year 2000, we had our first unelected President. He was appointed by the Supreme
Court, after they stopped the vote count in Florida.

It was not long before regulations were removed from Insurance companies, Banks, Finincial institutions like
      Worldcom and Enron.

Both these finincial institutions collapsed, and who do we see supporting Enron in exposed video clips? It was George W. Bush.

Then it was not long until America found itself in massive debt, after the large surplus was squandered, by the Bush Adm, left by the Clinton Administration.

Then it was not long till de-regulation occurred for the Energy Corporations. Remember the outrageous rates
placed on California, early in the decade?
Moreover, remember when our Electric and Gas rates began to soar, during this time?

Then remember 91l, and all the unanswered questions
asked by the public, and the wives of some lost in the
two skyscrapers, that fell like a perfect demolation?
Remember the loss of Stragitic Air support, and the non-
communication, before and after this event?
Moreover remember the cover-ups and lies told to satisfy the inquiring public, by the Corporate cable news
Networks? Most alarming was the delomation style collapse of Bld 7, of the World Trade Ctr Complex, that
fell later that afternoon on 9-11-2001, that was never hit by any airplane !
Well, I remember all of this, and the orchestated “weapons
      of mass destruction”
lie on Iraq. I also remember the rush
to war, and the “slam dunk” quote and all the deception that occurred that the Corporate media was complicit with. Then the night Bush ordered attack on Bagdad, which eventually led to 0ver 4000 0f our soldiers death, and some estimated 1,000,000 Iraq citizens death. Remember Blackwater, Haliburton and all their massive profits for years there? Remember Dick Cheney?
Well our economy was tanked here, especially for the middle class and the poor, whose taxes were unmanageable, while massive tax cuts were given to Corporations, Oil Companies and Energy providers.
I am going to finish this now, and to you Republicans
just look where the H___ all this has left us! Now left is President Obama to clean up all the broken pieces from
Wall Street’s stealing America’s homes and retirements.
Bush’s 8 years wrecking our environment, neglected intrastructure, and left America hated around the world, which Obama is now trying to repair. This is partly why I am a Democrat, that’s hoping all this Republican Abomination
      can be repaired.

  35. Explain the if ur part of a subdivision area, planters square then u can’t shoot a gun unless u have a 10 acre lot but guy shooting behind ur house on 5 acres non subdivided not to mention shooting towards my house and he’s legal because he is not subdivided.??? Makes no sense bullets travel same speed and distance weather ur subdivided or not. I can’t shoot and I respect that because I’m in the planters square but a guy behind my 5 acres can shoot???

    1. Shane you are guilty of irresponsibility, so the county has taken on the father role here to insure that if you fire your weapon on platted ground then you will be breaking the law even if you were responsible. does this make sense?

  36. The Home Depot has chosen to sponsor and participate in numerous gay pride parades and festivals. Most grievous is The Home Depot’s deliberately exposing small children to lascivious displays of sexual conduct by homosexuals and cross-dressers, which are a common occurrence at these events.
The goal of every homosexual organization supported by The Home Depot is to get homosexual marriage legalized.

  37. This is the full article I submitted to the newspaper during the holidays: Good Information

Christmas is just around the corner and we all look forward to time with our loved ones reflecting on the past year, our lives, our families and our faith. While we are planning for this special occasion, we must not forget to protect our homes and businesses from those who wish to take advantage of us. There are many criminal groups in Texas who will be targeting unattended homes and businesses in the area. With this in mind there are a few things you can do to protect yourself and your business:
    • Check that your alarm system is working properly and that the back-up battery is fresh. Your alarm system needs to be checked monthly. Call you monitoring service and advise them you will be testing the equipment. Make sure you have the monitoring service signs present on your property. Put up signs even if you do not have an alarm system. You can even put up “Beware of Dog” signs to discourage entry onto your property.
    • Make sure that you have proper exterior lighting around your house and that all lighting is operable. Put your interior lights on a timer when you are gone so that they cycle on/off in different areas.
    • Turn a radio on if you are going to be gone.
    • Do not have packages delivered that will be left outside visible to traffic. Criminals will drive around neighborhoods looking for unattended packages. Have them delivered to a neighbor who will be home. Have you neighbor collect your newspapers, mail and packages.
    • Make sure trees and shrubs are trimmed so that they do not allow people to hide behind them.
    • Lock your garage doors so that they cannot be pushed in and manually opened by pulling on the release rope. Lock the vehicles inside the garage as well.
    • Install surveillance cameras or “game” cameras on the exterior/interior of home.
    • Have a list of all available serial numbers in the event a burglary or theft takes place.
    • Do you have enough insurance coverage on your personal property….are they “scheduled”, do they need to be? If you do not know I suggest you contact your insurance carrier to confirm coverage’s before you experience an event. Finding out that you do not have the right coverage after a burglary or theft is not the time to find out.
    • Do the controlled access gates to gated community operate correctly?
    • Contact your local law enforcement and advise them to do a “close patrol/vacation watch” of your residence. Provide them with more than one person and number to contact in case of a discovered intrusion.

    • Confirm all electronic monitoring equipment is up to date, working properly and sufficient for the area of coverage. Test the equipment. Has an unknown alarm company representative recently just showed up to check your system…..they could actually be criminals setting up your system for failure or “testing” the facility.
    • Respond to false alarms. Criminals could be testing the response from police and staff representatives.
    • Make sure fencing/barriers are in good condition. Does the fence give access to the property because it can simply be climbed over? Are the rails/braces on the outside of the fence? Do you have picket tops on the fence or “V” barbarms?
    • Inspect all lighting and make sure it adequately covers as much area as possible.
    • Make sure the perimeter is clean of debris. Do not allow you property to be “inviting” to the criminal element.
    • Make sure all gates, doors and hardware/locks are in good working order.
    • Do not leave inventory in hallways that is visible from glass doors/windows.
    • Lock and secure equipment and trailers. Do not leave keys in the equipment. Do not leave equipment in unsecure storage yards. Make sure parking facilities are guarded and properly lighted.
    • Add GPS tracking devices to equipment and property that is mobile. Have your staff drive by and check on the property. They have a vested interest in reducing cost and loss.
    • Report any and all suspicious activity. Talk to other businesses in the area so that everyone is looking out for each other. Law enforcement would rather know about the activity before an event happens. Make sure law enforcement knows who to contact if your products or equipment are stolen. Mark with company name or point of contact.

These are just a few things you can do to decrease your vulnerability during the Christmas season. Enjoy family and friends and keep our military, medical and emergency responders in your prayers during this time.

  38. I live on River Trail in Parker County. The roads getting to my road are Horseshoe Bend Rd and Iriquius. These two roads are full of pot holes. You can not avoid them because there are to many. It is taring up my cars tires, alignment, and suspension. Who can I contact or sue to get something done? They come out from time to time and throw gravel into them, then we have a big bump next to the holes.Somebody help us out!

    1. ParkerCountyBlog | Reply

      Mr. Ramsey,
The elected official responsible for maintaining your roads is:

      John Roth, Commissioner Precinct 3

      Ofc 817-594-0371 john.roth@parkercountytx.com

  39. One thing Parker County and the State of Texas needs to do is make a deposit or bounty on the return of bottles. With package stores on all corners the landfills will soon be full and the rural roads are already overflowing with bottles tossed out. Mowers just run over and break they don’t pick up. I work at 12 parks in Jack, Wise, Parker, and Palo Pinto Counties and we pick up over 1000 lbs a week of litter and the majority of it is glass bottles that could be recycled if there was an easy or quick or profitable way to do it.

  40. Key word is profitable, there are a lot of trash purveyors but not many trash collectors. look what happened to the copper laying around when the price got high, nothing was safe. Now this brings me to remember that it used to be a person could save coke and even other beverage bottles and cash them in for cash back. Canada ( oh my) have machines that accept cans and pay you on the spot automatically, could do the same for plastic and glass. there are a lot of ways to increase the urgency for recycling. however, the major claim to fame would be to have respect for the land and each other by not tossing trash, and teach our children to do the same. I guess if we did this then we would be job destroyers for those that come here to do the jobs Americans don’t want to do.

  41. What percent of the cicizens in the state actually own property? Has property taxes outstripped the ability of the poor to pay rent? Do the people that own property owe to those who don’t? Where is the equity of working your entire life to pay off a mortgage to find out that your current taxes on that property will cost you more than the price you paid for that property plus some and will never end, and can be taken from you for non payment? Have we painted ourselves into a box from which there is no way to emerge in a lifetime? What would it cost for illegals to pay their own way? Do we really owe them the benefits that they currently are elligible for in this state. Have we allowed so many to come in unobstructed that they can really effect our elections? If so, That could be why our elected officials are afraid to loose that vote. Where are the border restraints that should be in place? Where are the politicians on this issue, are we going to allow them to continue blaming problems on our border on the other guy?these are not the only issues that we face but us old guys know what it means to fixed in income and not fixed in the number of people we will support financially.

Right there with you Stangarner, it really upsets me that here I was born in America as were my children but yet we cant get anything just handed to us..but if we had been born in Mexico then I would be able to get a free home given to me, free food, free education for my children, and all the help in the world just for being illegal. Why cant Americans have help without having to go through hell and back when illegals can just open up their hands then be given everything plus more. I really dont think that our founding fathers had this type of government in mind…

  43. Kerri Rehmeyer | Reply

The founding fathers set up a government that wouldn’t have given anyone, anything for “free” whether they were born here or not. They believed in individual freedoms and personal responsibility. Besides, the government can’t “give” something that they haven’t stolen from someone else. And nothing is free. Government “help” only makes you dependent and always has strings attached.

  44. AMEN Kerri!

  45. Are the american people Really going to accept this fast and furious thing and slide it under the heading of “I just can’t believe they would do this intentionally” Well get ready for a Ram. As much as I have a hard time with politics, I have watched as we have done this to the rest of the world. Our government has accomplished some things and then paid their way out of it by cash, threat, or other sorts of coercion. Keep your head in the sand and you will be obliviously an ostrich.

  46. Go to isouthwestdata Parker cad on the web and look at the difference in your property tax and your neighbor. Look whose getting favors. The people of Parker county should not stand for the hijacking from the appraisal district.

  47. This was written by a 21 yr old female who gets it. It’s her future she’s worried about and this is how she feels about the social welfare big government state that she’s being forced to live in! These solutions are just common sense in her opinion.

This was in the Waco Tribune Herald, Waco , TX , Nov 18, 2011

    PUT ME IN CHARGE . . .

Put me in charge of food stamps. I’d get rid of Lone Star cards; no cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho’s, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks of cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want steak and frozen pizza, then get a job.

Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I’d do is to get women Norplant birth control implants or tubal legations. Then, we’ll test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine. If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, or smoke, then get a job.

Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks? You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your home” will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions will be inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and your own place.

In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a “government” job. It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you. We will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the “common good..”

Before you write that I’ve violated someone’s rights, realize that all of the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules. Before you say that this would be “demeaning” and ruin their “self esteem,” consider that it wasn’t that long ago that taking someone else’s money for doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self esteem.

If we are expected to pay for other people’s mistakes we should at least attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.

AND While you are on Gov’t subsistence, you no longer can VOTE! Yes, that is correct. For you to vote would be a conflict of interest. You will voluntarily remove yourself from voting while you are receiving a Gov’t welfare check. If you want to vote, then get a job.

  48. I have been going to the Weatherford Parker County Animal Shelter for a few months now, walking dogs, fostering here and there, helping take pictures, etc. I did not start going there to start any drama, nor to have any drama started with me. I simply love dogs and believe that they deserve a better life than being locked up all day in a kennel. Even if it’s getting them out for 10 minutes to stretch their legs, or play a little ball, even to get a little pat from one of my kids. These dogs have entered my heart, and there they shall remain.

I have witnessed several things at the shelter that I believe need to be changed. The staff, for one, is very often rude to people on the phone and in person. They have told people that certain dogs were aggressive and not adoptable, when they were as gentle as can be. They have locked the dogs up at night with empty water bowls, the horses in stalls full of mud from urine and piles of poop. Mind you, these are just SOME examples. Anyway, I’ve done my best to keep a clear head, to be curteous to them even when they are rude. (The ACOs have NOT ever been AT ALL rude to me, just the office staff)

I only moved to Weatherford 1 year and 3 weeks ago. I have not been involved in previous dealings between the shelter and the volunteers. I signed in as a visitor, as I was visiting. The director told me that I could do that, my kids were able to accompany me, as long as they did not hold the leash. I had to be in control, which is common sense anyway. It was not an issue, until recently.

The volunteer program kicked off with a new application. The wording of which I am not comfortable with. I believe this contract compromises my ethics, as the shelter would not allow the volunteers to make public any wrongdoing. The contract, acording to Ms. Tawater, would also allow the shelter staff to BAN the volunteers if they so chose. I am not looking for an official volunteer position. I do not want to get involved in the inner working of the shelter. I want to be able to walk and evaluate dogs, and continue adopting to rehome. The exact same thing that everyone else can do.

I have to be picky with the dogs I choose. I have 3 sons, one of whom is developmentally delayed. I need to be sure the dog I bring home to foster is going to be safe around my boys. I need to walk them, see how they react to the children, and if they are overly rough during play. I make sure all necessary precautions are taken, but then the staff has to come and tell me that my kids are not allowed around the dogs? Other people bring their kids to meet a potential new family member? What makes mine excluded? Hmmm.

So, I leave the kids at home, as I am tired of the nagging. I go by myself. I have a foster leaving soon, and have been on the lookout for my next potential adoptee. I have assisted the other ladies on picture day, meeting new people, being social, enjoying the dogs, and helping to promote the dogs that don’t necessarily meet the requirements for me, but very easily would be a match for someone else. It’s really quite harmless…

On Saturday, June 30, 2012, I took out a dog that someone had asked me about. “Is she friendly? Should I make the 4 hour drive to meet her?” I took her out, and played with her for about 30 min. I put her back in her kennel after sending her potential adopter a video and some pictures about how lovely she is. I decided to take out a dog that someone had suggested might be a good fit for my family to foster. I leashed her up, and walked out the door when I was confronted by Ms. Tawater who told me that if I had not signed the volunteer contract that I had to return the dog to her kennel and leave. “Is that even legal?” I asked her. She said yes, put her back and leave. 😦

I put the poor pup back in her kennel, upset that she didn’t even get to go potty outside. I went to my vehicle, about to leave. I wanted to know WHY. I went to the office and asked Ms. Tawater why I was being kicked out of the shelter. She said it was for liability reasons and I had to sign the form. I told her why I didn’t want to sign it, I am a visitor. I am not looking for a volunteer job. She told me (in raising tone of voice) that I just simply had to sign it or not come back. I asked if I could sign a release of liability, since that is what she seemed to repeat as the reason the most often. She said no, I had to sign the form. She told me that in signing the form, anything I did “wrong” could result in me being banned…which is what she was doing anyway. There was another couple in there visiting and adopting a dog that day who asked WHY as well. When I walked out, the woman told me thank you for doing what I do and she didn’t understand why they didn’t want someone there who obviously loves the dogs.

But, I am a resident of Weatherford, I pay taxes, it’s a public animal shelter, with public hours, and I’m not doing anything that the public is not allowed to do. I don’t understand WHY I am being excluded. Well, apparently Dustin, the director told her specifically that if I came back without that form to make me leave. (Sharon Hayes also told me that I could not go back unless I signed the form. In an email in which I sent pictures of some of the issues I was concerned with).

Mr. Deel called me this morning, saying that I wanted to talk to him. (???) All I got was that I had to sign the form, had to sign, had to sign. I explained that I did not agree with the freedoms that the form took away from me. Ethically speaking, I cannot sign a form that tells me I cannot speak if I see things that are “wrong”. (I seem to recall 1983 for some reason…) I don’t see what harm it does ANYBODY for me to sign in as a visitor, walk some dogs that myself or friends are interested in, and make decisions based on my experience with the animals. I explained that I am not there specifically to volunteer, that I am looking for fosters and have to be picky, especially since they already banned my children and I cannot see how the dog reacts to them. I AM A VISITOR, not a free employee. He said that I am there “too much to be a visitor”…yet, there is nothing saying that you can only visit the shelter X amount of hours a week or be forced to sign a contract. He said it was a “judgment call” (or lack thereof).

I have been in college for the past 3 years, studying to be a domestic violence victim’s advocate. To be a voice for those to battered to speak. How can I turn my back on those without the ability to speak? The shelter staff is making me out to be some sort of criminal, even offering to have me arrested if I ignore their warning and return. Very interesting tactic. I don’t appreciate being bullied.

I am close to a degree in Criminal Justice, closer to my degree in Paralegal, an 8 yr Army Veteran in the Military Police Corps, a mother of three, one whom is disabled, and a survivor of domestic violence. I have paid my dues. I dont understand why the people involved are so threatened by me that they have to single me out. What are they trying to hide???? Why aren’t they ENCOURAGING more people to come down and walk the dogs?? The staff doesn’t do it! If it weren’t for CITIZENS, those dogs would never get out of their cages. This is supposed to be a wonderful family oriented city, yet I’ve never felt so UNWELCOMED before in my entire life. Thanks WPCAS…for nothing…

We live in liberal MN and are relocating to the area. I assumed TX was a conservative state and therefore would be safe wherever we chose to live. I just researched that TX doesn’t use Common Core but critics say Cscope is just TX’s version of it. Can anyone tell me if Weatherford or Aledo ISDs use Common Core or Cscope? I’m hoping to move to the Bible Belt to raise our children. Would you recommend either ISD? (If we could afford private, we would do that). What about the local newspaper named The Weatherford Democrat? What in the world – does that mean we should stay away from Weatherford? 🙂

  54. The definition of the word Conundrum is: something that is puzzling or

Here are six Conundrums of socialism in the United States of America:

    1. America is capitalist and greedy – yet half of the population is subsidized.

    2. Half of the population is subsidized – yet they think they are victims.

    3. They think they are victims – yet their representatives run the government.

    4. Their representatives run the government – yet the poor keep getting poorer.

    5. The poor keep getting poorer – yet they have things that people in
    other countries only dream about.

    6. They have things that people in other countries only dream about –
yet they want America to be more like those other countries.

Think about it! And that, my friends, pretty much sums up the USA in
    the 21st Century.

Makes you wonder who is doing the math.

These three, short sentences tell you a lot about the direction of our
    current government and cultural environment:

    1. We are advised to NOT judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few
lunatics, but we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions
of a few lunatics. Funny how that works.

And here’s another one worth considering…

    2. Seems we constantly hear about how Social Security is going to run
out of money. How come we never hear about welfare or food stamps
running out of money? What’s interesting is the first group “worked
for” their money, but the second didn’t. Think about it…..

    and Last but not least,

    3. Why are we cutting benefits for our veterans, no pay raises for our
military and cutting our army to a level lower than before WWII, but
we are not stopping the payments or benefits to illegal aliens.

    4. We don’t pay military what they are worth, but give bonuses to IRS employees who don’t pay taxes.

Am I the only one missing something?

    1. This is so off the subject but I have a question…..

My husband our son and I were going to rent out a modular trailor in Cresson and we went to turn on the electricity and came to find out that their is a lien on the property bc someone else (not her) was staying there and not paying the bills and the electric company came out once to turn it off, second time took the meter, third time took the whole transformer. The property owner went up to Tri County office to figure out what she can do but the unfortunate thing is that we were supposed to only stay at my friends house until the 16th bc we moved out of our apartment and put everything in storage. My son is super excited. I have dogs so the house would have been awesome. My concern is the property owner is 28 single mom that lives with Mom so idk how she would ve able to pay anything if that is what it comes too! I would be moving intoday if it wasn’t for that and I only have a week here. Please anyone any advice???
