Health Plans Scramble To Calculate 2015 Rates

With the results sure to affect politics as well as pocketbooks, health insurers are already preparing to raise rates next year for plans issued under the Affordable Care Act.

But their calculation about how much depends on their ability to predict how newly enrolled customers – for whom little is known regarding health status and medical needs — will affect 2015  costs.

“We’re working with about a third of the information that we usually have,” said Brian Lobley, senior vice president of marketing and consumer business at Pennsylvania’s Independence Blue Cross. “We’ve really been combing the data to get a first look.”

We Are Not SUBJECTS (and Other Observations About Obamacare)

Obamacare Should Remind Us We Are Not ‘Subjects,’ We Are People

From TownHall.com, By Laura Hollis, 11/20/13 –

The unveiling of the dictatorial debacle that is Obamacare absolutely flabbergasts me. It is stunning on so many levels, but the most shocking aspect of it for me is watching millions of free Americans stand idly by while this man, his minions in Congress and his cheerleaders in the press systematically dismantle our Constitution, steal our money, and crush our freedoms.

The President, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid (with no small help from Justice John Roberts) take away our health care, and we allow it. They take away our insurance, and we allow it. They take away our doctors, and we allow it.They charge us thousands of dollars more a year, and we allow it. They make legal products illegal, and we allow it. They cripple our businesses, and we allow it.They announce by fiat that we must ignore our most deeply held beliefs – and we allow it.

Where is your spine, America?

Emerging Ryan-Murray Deal: More Taxes to Fund Obamacare and Increased Spending

From RedState, By: Daniel Horowitz, December 9th, 2013

Daniel Horowitz

Daniel Horowitz

James Madison was very adamant that the power of the purse be preserved in the body of government that is closest to the people – the House of Representatives – as a way to redress all grievances against harmful government interventions.  We have a law that is woefully unpopular and universally regarded as unworkable, yet Republicans have made it abundantly clear to the Democrats that Obamacare will never be part of the budget negotiations ever again.  We have a president who is illegally usurping the power of Congress on an array of issues, yet Republicans have preemptively abdicated their authority to reassert their power through the budget process.

Is the President Smoking Weed Again?

Erick Erickson

Erick Erickson

From RedState, By Erick Erickson,12/06/13- The President is either high or ignorant, though perhaps we should embrace the healing power of “and.”  He posits that if the nation raises the minimum wage, there will be an economic boom.

Only in leftwing fantasy land and Das Kapital does such a concept even come close to being credible.  What’s worse, via his twitter account his minion tweeted out an info graphic making the case.  One can only assume this is why he does not want poor children in Louisiana to get a better education.  If they did, they’d quickly realize the President is full of . . . choom maybe?

New Obamacare Defense: Blame Everyone But Yourself

Yesterday at the conclave of the Wall Street Journal’s CEO Council, Barack Obama got a chance to demonstrate what he does best: blame others and make excuses.

From New York Post, By George E. Pataki, 11/06/13 – As ObamaCare continues to crash, smaller businesses and their employees may have an escape hatch from many of the law’s worst features — but the administration and its left-wing allies are trying to close the door.

The Internet does weird things to people. One of those weirdnesses comes from the tech-savvy community on the left, who sincerely embrace an agile, entrepreneurial, bottom-up culture in their professional and voluntary pursuits, yet forcefully argue for the top-down paternalism of forcing people to buy health insurance, imposed by a bureaucracy that can’t build a website.

9 States With Shockingly Low ObamaCare Enrollment Numbers So Far

From NRCC.org, 10/24/13 –

The White House continues to remain silent on numbers for how many Americans have actually enrolled in health care plans through the ObamaCare website. The estimates are that they’re pretty bad.

In the meantime, here are 9 of the worst states, in no particular order, with the worst enrollment numbers for ObamaCare so far, according to tracking site EnrollMaven.com as of October 24, 2013.

Advancing. Ever Advancing.

Ted Cruz, Mike Lee

Much cynicism has been expressed over the past month about the effort, led by Ted Cruz and Mike Lee, to fight Obamacare.  It was about money or defeating Republicans or something other than what it was about — undermining Obamacare with a united front.

It was always about undermining Obamacare, despite the claims of others.  But, those of us who were in this fight against Obamacare, have been quite open that we knew there were side benefits.  This fight would expose conservative activists to the frauds they have funded.

Sequestration Is the Bipartisan Law of the Land. Fight on Obamacare

Erick_Erickson-3From RedState.com, By Erick Erickson, October 13th, 2013 – I was very disappointed to see Robert Costa of National Review use of the dollar sign in this tweet:

Praised recently by a lot of liberals in the press, invited to the White House to sit with Barack Obama, and now subtly suggesting the McConnell – Boehner – K Street GOP attack on Heritage Action for America, Senate Conservatives Fund, Club for Growth, and Madison Project is legit, i.e. they’re in it for the money.

That’s disappointing, but unsurprising.
