Republican rebels stand fast against Boehner, amnesty
From World Net Daily, byDrew Zhan, 02/28/15 –
In the contentious voting over a Homeland Security funding bill Friday night, nearly 50 mostly conservative Republicans openly defied House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio – not once, but twice.
Only a last-minute change of heart by Democrat leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., spared the Republican speaker from an embarrassing defeat and a possible shutdown of part of the DHS.
At issue was whether the three-week spending bill backed by GOP leadership would be passed with or without funding President Obama’s executive action lifting the threat of deportation from millions of illegal immigrants. Many in Boehner’s party were not willing to pass a bill paying for what they’re calling Obama’s unconstitutional “amnesty” action.
Why John Boehner Hates The Tea Party
ChuckBaldwinLive, 5/22/14 What is now called the Tea Party began in 2007 as a loosely-organized yet highly-motivated grassroots support effort for Congressman Ron Paul’s bid for the White House. Since those early days, a lot has happened to the Tea Party. For one thing, the Tea Party is now much larger and broader than any one person’s political candidacy. And though a Tea Party candidate has not yet obtained the White House (Ron Paul was the lone Tea Party Republican candidate in both the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections), a host of Tea Party candidates have won several elections in the US House and Senate–as well as many State and local races. And to win these elections, Tea Party candidates have had to repel the attacks against them from the Republican establishment. In fact, the GOP establishment is far and away the Tea Party’s biggest enemy. |
This is “Read My Lips” All Over Again
From RedState.com, By: Erick Erickson, August 30th, 2013
During the 1988 Republican Convention, then Vice President George H. W. Bush uttered a phrase that would destroy his Presidency — “Read my lips, no new taxes.”
Just two years later, voters realized they had read a lie on President Bush’s lips. He negotiated a budget agreement with Democrats in the United States Congress that raised taxes. Republicans in the House of Representatives rallied against their own President.
Conservatives urge GOP leaders to be bold, prepare to go over cliff
From TheHill.com, By Erik Wasson – 12/23/12 06:00 AM ET – Conservative activists who helped doom Speaker John Boehner’s (R-Ohio) “Plan B” say Republicans must be prepared to go over the fiscal cliff to force President Obama to reach a deal that includes no tax hikes.
The activists say Boehner and other GOP leaders have been too scared about suffering politically if the nation goes over the cliff and $500 billion in tax hikes and spending cuts are triggered in January.
Tea Party candidate seeks to challenge Boehner in 2012
From Ballot Box, By Alicia M. Cohn – 09/17/11 – Tea Party activist David Lewis announced Friday he will challenge House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) in a Republican primary in 2012.
Lewis describes himself “a devout Christian, Tea Party leader, and pro-life leader” on his campaign website. “David’s only allegiance is to God and cannot be swayed by party, individuals, or interest groups,” the site reads.
Lewis told The Cincinnati Enquirer his candidacy was prompted by Boehner’s support of a federal budget that included funding for Planned Parenthood. Continue reading →
