Judge asked to rule on lawsuit against American pastor over his speech
A motion for summary judgment has been filed in federal court in Massachusetts seeking the end to a lawsuit by a coalition of Ugandan “gays” who contend an American pastor was not protected by the First Amendment when he was speaking in the United States about homosexuality.
The case was brought by Sexual Minorities of Uganda (SMUG) against American minister, speaker and advocate Scott Lively of Abiding Truth Ministries.
The homosexuals claimed that Lively’s comments about homosexuality are “crimes against humanity” and are forbidden under international law. And they claimed that America’s Alien Tort Statute allows them to come into the U.S. and dictate what people say.

An Iowa pastor, saying the government needs to stop “meddling in religious affairs,” is at odds with the state over a law focused on sexual orientation and gender identity that he says hinders his First Amendment right to teach on matters of sexuality.
“The state of Iowa is not the self-appointed pope of all churches,” Cary Gordon, pastor of Cornerstone World Outreach, a nondenominational church with around 900 members in Sioux City, Iowa, told The Daily Signal.
It is a rare moment indeed when faith denominations of all stripes unite together in common cause, and it is rarer still when that cause is a political one, with a sole piece of legislation as its principal target. But when that law eviscerates the very foundation of religious liberty in America as protected under the First Amendment, it should not be surprising that Catholics and Jews, evangelical Christians, and mainline Lutherans alike find common cause in defense of their liberties.
