Most of the “elected” political toadies do very little, as they acquire staffs of veteran insiders who decipher the legislative legal jargon, as received from assorted lobbyists and special interest grouops. These “staffers” really run the legislature and are as heavily romanced by the lobbyists as toady “honorable Senator” or ” rep”

Term limits should also remove staffers for a 10 or 20 year period…………yes, right down to the that special little office secretary.

The laws are written in a complex manner, deliberately. The legislative rules and machinations , such as manipulations by Strauss and Dewhurst, are deliberately designed to confound even the voting toady.

“Staffers” have run the Texas legislative sessions for decades, while the pompous elected officialdom, preen and parade before the voters. They really do nothing.

“The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses
is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of
society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. . .
We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of. . .

“In almost every act of our daily lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in
our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons
. . . who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses.
It is they who pull the wires which control the public mind. . .”

    Edward C. Bernays, Propaganda, 1928
