Independent Conservative Republicans of Texas (ICRT)

Our thanks to Phil King and his colleagues in the Texas House and Senate who formed “Independent Conservative Republicans of Texas” (ICRT).

We will be watching closely in the weeks and months to come, to see what you do with the opportunity you have been given to lead from the front.

We have grown weary of the federal government. Our confidence in most of the members of the U.S. House and Senate has been severely eroded by their ineptness and inability to, among other things, stop the growth of socialism.

The insidious spread of socialism has been in many ways like moss growing on a stone. You don’t notice the moss spreading if you see the stone every day. So it has been with the incremental growth of socialism.

Margaret Thatcher is quoted as saying, “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.”

The following is a statement attributed to the Scottish author Alexander Tyler:

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years.”

For many, it seems as though history began with their birth. Are you not aware that those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it?

Are we as a nation in the process of following the pattern of which Tyler spoke – moving “from apathy to dependence” or “from dependence into bondage”?

Some believe that it is only through socialism that a world at peace can be achieved. But if the choice is between peace and freedom – I will choose freedom over peace any day!

As for Texas –

Our faith is in our God, and we trust Texans to stand resolute against a tyrannical federal government. We now look to the ICRT to defend our 10th Amendment rights.

It is not more talk we seek – no more rhetoric. We expect results!

Phil, we urge you and your colleagues to stand strong – Don’t blink!

  1. Please do not split the Republican Party! I agree with what you say, but if the party splits it will put Democrats back in office in 2010 and 2012.
I agree totally that to have the 5 principles you speak about is great….We give our word….not pledge/committment. This is a good concept, but I just am afraid our party will split and that will put the Democrats in favorable position, AGAIN!
