Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program

February 27, 2010

The 81st Texas Legislature created the Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program through the approval of HB 3452 to encourage students to participate in Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) programs at civilian colleges. A student must meet specific eligibility criteria in order to receive an initial scholarship award. In addition to the eligibility criteria, a student must enter into an agreement requiring a four-year commitment as a member of the Texas Army National Guard, member of the Texas Air Force National Guard, or a commissioned officer in any branch of the armed services of the United States. Annually, the governor and the lieutenant governor may each appoint two students, and each state senator and each state representative may appoint one student to receive a conditional Texas Armed Services Scholarship. A maximum of 185 students may be appointed statewide. A student may receive up to $10,000 for the 2010-2011 academic year and dependent on funding available, students may receive up to four years of scholarship awards.

Republican Primary election day – Don’t forget to vote!

February 26, 2010

To those who have cared enough about our future, to engage in the on-going political debate on this blog, we say thank you.  With few exceptions, your comments have been respectful and constructive.

We would do well to remind ourselves that the opinions of those with whom we disagree are just as valid to them as our opinions are to us.

Many patriots believed so strongly in their opinions during the Civil War that thousands on both sides fought and died defending their beliefs.

I often think of Germany leading up to WWII when Hitler, a relatively unknown personality came on the scene and convinced the citizens of Germany that he had a better idea for their future as a people and as a nation.

Seems like every election cycle many at all levels are drawn in by some smooth talking charismatic individual who knows and says precisely what we want to hear.

I respectfully suggest that when you hear their rhetoric, examine that person’s verifiable proven record of success or failure.  Would you hire someone based strictly on what he says about himself?

If I find it easier to vilify the opposition than to defend my candidate, the opposition may not be the problem – the real problem may be that I have not adequately vetted my own candidate.

Again, thank you – and don’t forget to vote!

Guest ed: Brinkley supports County Judge Mark Riley

February 24, 2010

by Joe Brinkley, Commissioner, Precinct 2

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Occasionally in this life we meet someone who consistently believes their individual wisdom is greater than the wisdom of the whole.
Fortunately, this happens only occasionally. My fellow Commissioner John Roth of Precinct 3 used this space last week in an attempt to convince Parker County residents that he alone knows what is best for you, the taxpayer.
Considering this, I would like to summarize for you some, but not all, of the positive actions of Parker County Government under the leadership of County Judge Mark Riley.
Election 2010: Texas Republican Primary for Governor
February 24, 2010
from RASMUSSEN REPORTS
Texas GOP Primary: Perry 48%, Hutchison 27%, Medina 16%
Wednesday, February 24, 2010
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Just days before Texas Republicans pick their nominee for governor, incumbent Rick Perry has his biggest lead yet.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely Republican Primary voters finds Perry leading Senate Kay Bailey Hutchison 48% to 27%, with Tea Party activist Debra Medina earning 16% of the vote. Nine percent (9%) of Texas GOP voters remain undecided.

At the beginning of the month, Perry lead 44% to Hutchison’s 29% and Medina’s 16%. In September, just after Hutchison traveled statewide to announce her candidacy for governor, she posted a 40% to 38% lead over Perry, but that was the high point of her support which has been declining ever since.

Janelle Shepard endorses Dusty Renfro for Commissioner, Precinct 4

February 22, 2010

I’m endorsing Dusty Renfro for Precinct 4 Commissioner.

Parker County Precinct 4 deserves a smart, energetic, sincere Commissioner.  We will have that when Dusty Renfro is sworn in.

Dusty will restore integrity, respect, fairness and true conservative values to this position.

Dusty is a servant with excellent people and problem solving skills.   When you meet Dusty you know he is a natural leader.

All of Parker County will benefit when Dusty Renfro is elected to Commissioners Court.

Thank you.

Janelle Shepard

Lippincott standing up for her 1st Amendment rights

February 22, 2010

by Kerri Rehmeyer

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Faye has been down at the courthouse annex everyday asking for people’s votes.  She has persevered, standing up for her 1st amendment rights, even as she has been repeatedly told to leave.  She is well within her lawful rights to electioneer as long as she is outside the 100 foot marker, which she has been.  If I lived in Precinct 2, I would certainly be casting my vote for her.  She deserves to win.  I believe she would make an excellent JP.
An expose’ of the Census Bureau – what information are you required to give?
February 21, 2010
by Jerry Day (minivanjack)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This is an expose’ of the Census Bureau. This video itemizes the fundamental legal questions that the Census Bureau refuses or fails to answer about its collection and use of personal information from every American (see questions below). This program aired on Matrix News Network (syndicated national television) in January of 2010.

Without any apparent authority the Census Bureau has expanded its information gathering activities. In addition to the once-in-10-years Census authorized by the Constitution, the Census Bureau conducts more in-depth “Surveys” of 250,000 Americans every month of every year. It has no Constitutional authority for that, in fact the Bureau is violating the 4th Amendment to the Bill of Rights by suggesting that Americans are “obligated” to provide any personal information whatsoever to government.

Help us re-elect Governor Rick Perry

February 20, 2010

by Lenny Leatherman

As you know today is the last day of early voting in the 2010 primary election. If you haven’t voted yet – please do either today or March 2nd.

While you are out and about today taking advantage of the strongest economy in the nation, try counting the number of U-haul trailers you come across that do not have Texas license plates.  I think you will find that most have out of state plates – brought here by families who are moving here to take advantage of our economy and our conservative way of life – for the same reasons so many businesses are coming to Texas.

That wouldn’t be happening if it were not for the Texas conservative Republican team led by Governor Rick Perry.

“I am today rescinding my endorsement of Debra Medina for Governor of Texas”…

My Personal Line in the Sand

This article first appeared on Red Diva’s Drivel

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You have one too, so don’t make fun of me.  We all have a certain line that when crossed has the result of a radical change in thought, opinion, or belief in something or someone.  Has your line been crossed?  Mine has.
I have supported and endorsed Debra Medina as Governor of Texas.  I did so with the full knowledge of her LIbertarian leanings.  There have been a couple of statements issued by her campaign that I questioned, but I felt like the people of Texas would be able to overcome the negativity suggested and see through the folly of the statement itself.
