County Judge summarizes accomplishments and looks forward to 2010

To Parker County Citizens:
It is with great excitement and anticipation that I look forward to beginning 2010. I have been honored to serve as your County Judge for eleven years. As I enter the final year of my term, it is also the beginning of campaign season. The Republican Primary is March 2, 2010.
During my service as judge, Parker County has experienced explosive growth. The single most important issue facing the county has been transportation. In early 2008, we employed the services of an engineering firm to develop a transportation plan. By August of that year, after meeting for many hours with citizens, school districts and cities, the plan was a reality. In November 2008, the voters overwhelmingly approved the bond election.

District Clerk has big plans for final year in office

With one year remaining in her term, Parker County District Clerk Elvera Johnson says she has been truly blessed to serve Parker County for the past 11 years and while she will not seek reelection, she has one final endeavor planned for her final year in office.

Install speed bumps and prevent a child’s death

I am writing this request out of near desperation concerning people that speed through our residential area. We live at 114 Quail Bluff Lane (McDavid South) Aledo Texas. This residential area is off of Micus road (South) heading (west) up Quail ridge road, (Dead End).

The primary problem is two very radical street curves within the community that kids and adults alike seem to get a thrill from by speeding around them as fast as they can.
Our community historically has lost several pets to speeding drivers, but the major concern is, we now have several families with young kids that ride bikes and play outside. There is no need for anyone to speed through our community, there is only one way in and one way out.

Parker County Republican Women hosts candidate forum

YOU ARE INVITED!

Parker County Republican Women would like to invite you to a candidate forum to be held at their regularly scheduled monthly meeting on February 11, 2010.  The meeting will be held at the Doss Heritage Center, 1400 Texas Drive, and will begin at 11:30.

Races featured will be county office contested positions.  This includes races for County Judge, County Commissioner Pct. 2, Justice of the Peace Pct. 2, County Commissioner Pct. 4 and Justice of the Peace Pct. 4.

Due to the large number of candidates (sixteen) for these five positions, each candidate will be given two minutes to present their platform.  Time at the end of the program will be given to “meet and greet” the candidates.

Cost for the meeting is $12 for club members and $15 for non-members.  Part of the price of each meal goes toward covering the cost of the venue.

ObamaCare Shell Game

Please do not fall for the Reid/Pelosi/Obama shell game. The Senate Hatch-Nelson Amendment duplicates the House Stupak-Pitts Amendment. Both are copies of the 1977 compromised Hyde Amendment, which allowed annual tax funding of abortion. We have been funding abortion since 1971 (even before Roe). Neither of those Amendments will stop a single tax dollar from falling into the Planned Parenthood coffers. Neither will save a single baby from the abortionist’s tools of death. Most of the pro-life para-church organizations are being suckered into the shell game trap.

Reflections on What Could Have Been

I remember the first time I heard “litmus test” used in a sentence. The reason I remember it is that my all-time favorite school teacher, Mrs. Schwartzwalter, used it in our fifth grade history class on our American Constitution. First, she read the words of the preamble. Her reading was slow, and deliberate, as if to imply that this was her most treasured teaching.

“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

After a few minutes of interpreting, and explaining word meanings, she asked if we understood the basic purpose of those particular words, as related to the whole of the Constitution, and to our form of government.

City Council’s Three Amigos of Tax and Spend

Well folks it seems more spending is coming our way if we don’t speak up. There are two items on the Tuesday, December 8, 2008 City Council Agenda to be voted on at 6:30pm in the City Council Meeting.  Those items are #8 and #9 on the Consent Agenda.

Item #8 Discuss and consider Resolution R2009-29 authorizing the city manager to make application to the Statewide Transportation Enhancement Program for funds to construct Phase II of the Hike and Bike Trail system.

In 2006 the City of Weatherford applied for Statewide Transportation Enhancement Program (STEP) funds to construct and extend the hike and bike trail from the Santa Fe Depot northwest to Cartwright Park. The program was receded the following year. The Texas Department of Transportation has again issued a call for projects to be funded through the Statewide Transportation Enhancement Program and a resolution authorizing the city manager to nominate this project for funding is submitted for council discussion and consideration. The deadline for submission is December 11, 2009.

Total cost of the proposed project is estimated to be $3,164,800.00 and the city will be required to pay 20% of the total cost. The city’s match would be $632,960.00.
