Excuse me Mr. Obama, I mean President Obama, Sir.  Um . . I know you’re busy, and important and stuff.  I mean, running the county is very important and — ah — I hate to bother you, Sir.  I will only take a minute. Ok, Sir?
See, I have these missing pieces that are holding me up, and I was wondering, Sir, if you could take time out of your busy schedule and help me out.  You know, no big deal, just some loose ends and things.

Is term limits the solution – absolutely!

July 22, 2009

Lenny_Leatherman(200)by Lenny Leatherman

On the page entitled “What’s happening in Parker County”, Glenn comments that term limits would likely solve many of our problems.

I agree.  I see no other way to stop this downward spiral into socialism!  Unfortunately, term limit legislation must be approved by those whose terms would be limited. Although everyone including self-serving politicians would ultimately benefit, the same desire for notoriety and power that drove them to run for office will likely cause many to stand in opposition to real reform.

2nd Amendment – “rights and privileges are opposites”

July 19, 2009

kerri-2

by Kerri Rehmeyer

There have been several gun law related controversies in Parker County recently to which I propose a simple solution — look to the Constitution and the intent of the founders.

The 2nd Amendment says: “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”

The 2nd amendment enumerates an inherent unalienable RIGHT to protect yourself.  Period.  Inherent meaning it cannot be extracted.  Inherent meaning you were endowed with that right by your creator, not granted that right by any man or piece of paper including the Constitution.  Constitutional scholar, Michael Badnarik, defines “a right as something you can do without asking for permission.  The opposite of a right, therefore, is something you cannot do without asking for permission.  Anytime you need permission to do something it is a privilege.”  This means that “rights and privileges are opposites.”

Unwilling to have this vaccine tested on my children

July 16, 2009

by Carrie Hurd

In 1976 President Gerald Ford predicted that the new Swine Flu would be a world-threatening pandemic.  Television ads frightened American citizens and 46 million dutifully took the shot.  That flu shot was blamed for triggering three hundred deaths, and 4,000 injuries.  Only about 200 cases of swine flu and one death were ultimately reported.

Today, Gardasil, the vaccine given to girls and young women since 2006 to prevent common causes of cervical cancer, has resulted in 47 deaths. In addition to the deaths, Gardasil is associated with 6,723 adverse events in 2008, including more than 1,000 considered serious and 142 resulting in life-threatening complications according to Judicial Watch.  These numbers are believed to be only 1% of the actual complications that go unreported.  Canada suspended the use Gardisil but it is still being recommended for girls as young as 11 years of age here in the U.S.

As of July 9th, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius of the Obama administration began contacting state health workers and American schools, warning them to be prepared for community flu shot programs. “We know a mass vaccination program of even modest scale will involve extraordinary effort on your part,” Sebelius told state health workers.

Going Alamo: Why jobs and companies are flocking to a big small-government state

July 16, 2009

By Kevin D. Williamson

July 13, 2009

If you want to know where the future is headed, look where the people are going. And if you want to know where the people are going, check with U-Haul. Here’s an interesting indicator, first noted by the legendary economist Arthur Laffer: Renting a 26-foot U-Haul truck to go from Austin to San Francisco this July would cost you about $900. Renting the same truck to go from San Francisco to Austin? About $3,000. In the great balance of supply and demand, California has a large supply of people who are demanding to move to Texas. There’s a reason for this.

“Did the greater prosperity in low-tax states happen by chance?” asks Laffer, who studied the issue for a detailed economic report, Rich States, Poor States. “What seems obvious to us appears as right-wing science fiction to many California legislators and pundits. They claim that serious reform of the tax code is unrealistic, that a large state has many duties to fulfill, and that it is irresponsible to call for a return to a 19th century view of the role of government. . . . Not only does Texas lack a highly progressive income tax — it doesn’t have one at all! We hasten to add that the last time we checked, Texas still had literate kids, navigable roads and functioning hospitals, which one would think impossible given the hysterical rhetoric coming from defenders of California’s punitive tax system. In fact, the Texas success story illustrates everything we have been recommending for California all these years. How do they do that?”

The Wrenching Transformation of America

July 12, 2009
By Tom DeWeese
April 22, 2009

Ladies and gentlemen, I’ve come a long way to get here and I have such a short time to be with you. So, let’s just get everything out on the table right now, shall we?

I believe the American people, and their every action, are being ruled, regulated, restricted, licensed, registered, directed, checked, inspected, measured, numbered, counted, rated, stamped, censured, authorized, admonished, refused, prevented, drilled, indoctrinated, monopolized, extorted, robbed, hoaxed, fined, harassed, disarmed, dishonored, fleeced, exploited, assessed, and taxed to the point of suffocation and desperation.

America is drowning in a sea of rules and regulations, particularly under the guise of “saving the environment.”

We all know something is very wrong and we are trying to fix it.

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Wednesday declared a fiscal emergency

July 8, 2009
SAN FRANCISCO, July 1 (Reuters) – California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Wednesday declared a fiscal emergency to force lawmakers into a special session to tackle a state budget gap that has widened to $26.3 billion from $24.3 billion after they failed to close it on Tuesday.

Lawmakers debated late into the night Tuesday but could not agree on a plan to balance California’s budget for its new fiscal year, which began early Wednesday morning.

That cleared the way for state officials to suspend payments owed to vendors and local agencies, who instead will get “IOU” notes promising payment.  !!!!!

Democrats, who control the legislature, could not convince Republicans to either back their plans to tackle the shortfall or make a stopgap effort to ward off the IOUs. The two sides agree on the need for spending cuts, but are split over whether to raise taxes to help fill the gap.”

~~~~~~~
Well, Texans!   We are definitely in such great shape that hundreds of Californians are moving to Texas every month.  I’m thankful we have some sensible people in Austin.
Now, if they will just guard the borders and keep building highways.
Texans will pay a price for cap and trade
“My good friend, Barry Smitherman, wrote this short article on the harm “cap and trade” will cause to Texans.  It’s a very quick and very good read.  Barry chairs the Public Utility Commission and he is a real asset to our state. Thanks, Phil”
The proposed climate change legislation, intended to reduce carbon dioxide emissions over the next 40 years, will substantially raise electricity bills. An analysis recently released by ERCOT, the electric grid operator for most of Texas, joins other reports from around the country that project significant job losses and dramatic increases in the cost of electricity if this legislation is enacted.
About 50 percent of all electric generation in America comes from burning coal and about 20 percent comes from natural gas. And, even though Texas has more wind generation than any other state (and all but a handful of other countries), we still burn fossil fuels to generate the vast majority of our electricity.
